What Stories Do We Tell?

It’s funny how easily we forget. Just a short while ago everyone was complaining about the cold and rain and wished it was hot. Today we are complaining about the heat!
It’s like that with life and sometimes our relationship with God. We forget some things too easily.
It goes something like this. God does something for us. We are blessed. Then we encounter problems and we forget the good things He has done and dwell on the problems. We become consumed with what He hasn’t done or isn’t doing.
But it’s actually more perverse. We tend to forget the good things and tend to remember the bad! Why is that? And what is the antidote?
Well the enemy (the devil - known also as Satan) works on our minds, to accuse us and to question the goodness of God. He loves it when we focus on the negative about ourselves, our situations, or others.
The antidote is to believe God’s word and promises and to remind ourselves of and to declare the good things He has done - ‘Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done’, as the old song says.
There is power in the testimony - that is telling the stories of God’s great deeds. There are plenty in the Bible but there are also countless examples of His working in our day.
So let’s call to mind those good things, those good stories.
